Infinit (file transfer)

Infinit is a file transfer service operated by Infinit International Inc. Infinit has released four products, two for desktop and two for mobile. The desktop products are natives clients running on OS X (10.7+) and Windows. On mobile, Infinit has also released native apps, one for Android and another one for iOS. A native Linux client has been released in 2015.

The products enable users both to send files to each other and to a user's own devices through a simple drag/drop process. The data is transferred by connecting directly to the recipient in a peer-to-peer configuration, as opposed to the server-centric model used by cloud services. The service has been reported to be faster than the competitive solutions, including Apple's local file transfer protocol AirDrop. In addition, the files are encrypted before being transferred and are never stored in the cloud (on a third-party machine). Files are encrypted before leaving the sender's computer so that third-parties cannot view the files; only the recipient can decrypt them.

Infinit

Infinit may refer to:

  • Infinit International, Inc, the company behind both the file transfer application and file system.
  • Infinit (file transfer), a point-to-point file transfer service
  • Infinit (file system), a peer-to-peer file system
Infinit (file system)

Infinit is a large-scale decentralized ( peer-to-peer) file system that has been designed with redundancy, fault tolerance and scalability at heart. Infinit has the particularity of aggregating capacity from various storage resources being local ( disk, SAN, NAS etc.) or cloud (through an API), hence creating a virtual storage pool.

Infinit's architecture relies on a combination of distributed hash table for the object-store on top of which the file system is built to provide decentralized access control, POSIX compliance and more file system capabilities.
