Hallstatt

1866, Iron Age civilization of Europe, from the name of a village in Upper Austria, where implements from this period were found. The Germanic name is literally "place of salt," in reference to ancient salt mines there, which preserved the bodies of the original miners.

Hallstatt /ˈhalʃtat/, Upper Austria, is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. It is located near the Hallstätter See (a lake). At the 2001 census, it had 946 inhabitants. Alexander Scheutz has been mayor of Hallstatt since 2009.

Hallstatt is known for its production of salt, dating back to prehistoric times, and gave its name to the Hallstatt culture, a culture often linked to Celtic, Proto-Celtic, and pre- Illyrian peoples in Early Iron Age Europe, c.800–450 BC. Some of the earliest archaeological evidence for the Celts was found in Hallstatt.

Hallstatt (China)

Hallstatt in China is a housing development in the town Luoyang, Boluo County, in China. It is modelled after the Austrian city Hallstatt.

The area was built by the mining company China Minmetals. The flats in the area are mostly still in construction and are for sale. The center of the area contains a replica of the church, the fountain and various other objects from the original Hallstatt.
