FromCounsel is a UK online corporate law resource, producing content based on the Companies Act 2006 and other major related legislation, including the Insolvency Act 1986, the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986, the company law provisions of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 and the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015. The service also provides full versions of the secondary legislation that form part of the company law regime.
Having been incorporated on 18 May 2010, the Directors are barristers Andrew Thornton, Michael Todd QC (who is Head of Erskine Chambers and was Chairman of the Bar of England & Wales in 2012), Martin Moore QC, Nigel Dougherty and Ben Griffiths, all of Erskine Chambers. The Chairman is Mark Paterson, who was previously Chairman of SwiftKey and VP Business Development at Orange. Nicola Green is the Head of Content, an experienced Professional Support Lawyer and previous Head of Corporate at LexisPSL.
FromCounsel will launch in Summer 2016, allowing full access to its content for solicitors. Its content is produced by 22 members of Erskine Chambers and 12 Professional Support Lawyers and is delivered in Q&A format. As well as its Q&A content, FromCounsel delivers a daily and weekly current awareness service via email, noting key corporate regulatory and legal changes. FromCounsel also has a legislation service, where the legislation can be browsed in full or searched in a stand-alone format, and where specific references can be viewed alongside the Q&A content by selecting those references within the content to provide the viewer with both commentary and black-letter law simultaneously.
FromCounsel exists as a subscription-based website and a native mobile app. The software is all developed in-house from scratch by a team of developers with extensive experience. The Q&A format of its content makes FromCounsel different from other subscription-based law resources.
Stylistically, FromCounsel’s brand logo features an underscore. The company’s brand logo is: "FromCounsel_"; however, the underscore is generally omitted when referring to the company in written text.
