Dingal

Dingal is a ancient Indian language written in Nagri script and having literature in prose as well as poetry. It is a language of very high tone and requires a specific style of speaking. It was primarily used by Charans to motivate the troops in Rajput armies by praising the martial exploits of Rajputs and Charan war heroes. Several Rajput kings have also written poems in Dingal, particularly Maharaja Man Singh Rathore(Reign 1803-1843) of Marwar.

Actually it is neither a language nor a dialect. It is a mode of rendering poetry, a mode with a distinct flair of its own, a mode that has sprouted from the original Rajasthani and been shaped by historical events.

This language was being spoken and used for writing in present Rajasthan, Gujarat and Sindh of Pakistan. There are many Rajasthani poets and writers who have written in dingal.
