Wikipedia
Deliverance

Deliverance is a 1972 American drama thriller film produced and directed by John Boorman, and starring Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty and Ronny Cox, with the latter two making their feature film debuts. The film is based on the 1970 novel of the same name by American author James Dickey, who has a small role in the film as the Sheriff. The screenplay was written by Dickey and an uncredited Boorman. It was a critical success, earning three Academy Awards and five Golden Globe nominations.

Widely acclaimed as a landmark picture, the film is noted both for the music scene near the beginning, with one of the city men playing " Dueling Banjos" on guitar with a banjo-playing country boy, that sets the tone for what lies ahead—a trip into unknown and potentially dangerous wilderness—and for its visceral and notorious male rape scene. In 2008, Deliverance was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". It is one of the earliest made films on the National Film Registry in which all the main actors, around whom the plot develops, are still living.

The album debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200 with 64,500 copies sold in the first week released. Although this album was only moderately successful, selling around 350,000 copies, it is regarded by many critics such as The Source, Hip Hop Connection and more mainstream magazines such as Q to be something of a landmark in hip-hop music. The album's main strength according to critics was that it embraced Sparxxx's grass roots, with production heavily influenced by country music and similar musical styles. This influence is evident on tracks such as "Comin' Round" which sampled its chorus from a track by the bluegrass group Yonder Mountain String Band, leadout single "Jimmy Mathis" which is led by a catchy harmonica tune from the Area Code 615 track "Stone Fox Chase", and "She Tried" led by a washboard rhythm section and a mellow fiddle sound.

Deliverance spawned two hit singles, "Back in the Mud" and " Deliverance". In 2010, Rhapsody included it in its list of "The 10 Best Albums By White Rappers". "Back in the Mud" was also featured on the Madden NFL 2004 soundtrack.

Deliverance (rock band)

Deliverance was a German- Canadian Christian pop and rock music band that was active in the 1970s until 1981. Danny Janz, Ken Janz, and Paul Janz formed Deliverance in Lörrach, Germany though the three were from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. All three were raised in Basel, Switzerland and attended Black Forest Academy. Danny and Paul Janz had already performed together as "Danny and Paul" but joined with Ken in 1974 to form Deliverance — combining the "Janz Team Singers" with "Danny, Paul & Wayne" and created a dynamic new band. Guy Roellinger and Dave McSparran also joined the band during its history. The band released four albums before Paul Janz embarked on a solo career.

The group had a minor hit in 1979 with "Leaving L.A.", which reached #56 on the Billboard Hot 100.

After legal troubles concerning the band's name and a copyright suit the band named itself Janz and recorded a single in 1981 titled Steine which went #1 in German Charts. Still they were advised by their attorney not to record a full-length album yet. The band parted shortly after that when Paul Janz left Germany to go back to Canada.
