Colossus \Co*los"sus\, n.; pl. L. Colossi, E. Colossuses.

  1. A statue of gigantic size. The name was especially applied to certain famous statues in antiquity, as the Colossus of Nero in Rome, the Colossus of Apollo at Rhodes.
