Clyde

masc. proper name, from the family name, from the region of the Clyde River in Scotland (see Clydesdale). Most popular in U.S. for boys c.1890-1910, falling off rapidly thereafter, hence probably its use in 1940s teenager slang for "a square, one not versed in popular music or culture."

Released in April 1980, as the first single from Jennings' album Music Man, it reached #7 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and #1 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada. The song was also heard in the 2009 film Watchmen, playing in Happy Harry's Bar when Nite Owl II and Rorschach are asking around about Pyramid Transnational.

Clyde (mascot)

Clyde was the official mascot of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Clyde is an anthropomorphic thistle (the floral emblem of Scotland) and is named after the River Clyde which flows through the centre of Glasgow. The mascot was designed by Beth Gilmour, who won a competition run by Glasgow 2014 for children to design the Mascot. Beth's drawing was then brought to life by digital agency Nerv, who turned it into a commercial character, created a full backstory, gave it a name – Clyde – and created a website for him. Clyde was finally revealed in a seven-minute animated film created by Nerv at a ceremony at BBC Scotland's headquarters in Glasgow. The organiser, Glasgow 2014, said the mascot's design was chosen, because of its "Scottish symbolism and Glaswegian charm and likeability".

Clyde completed the story by leaving it in the air, asking the pointed question: Would Ewell Darden surprise his guests this evening by showing them the choicest treasures of the Argyle Museum collection, housed beneath the same roof where Darden kept his own rare prizes?

But Clyde Burke sensed that Goldy Tancred had sought to cover up a message of real importance.

In short, low sentences, Clyde stated that Goldy Tancred had received a suspicious call, which involved the name of Hobbs.

Had Goldy Tancred known that Clyde Burke was an agent of The Shadow, he would have taken prompt action to eliminate the inquisitive reporter.
