Butomus umbellatus]] Butomus is the only known genus in the plant family Butomaceae, native to Europe and Asia. Two species are recognized:

• Butomus junceus Turcz. - Central Asia
• Butomus umbellatus L. - China, Central Asia, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, Russia, Europe; naturalized in North America
