Athahatha

Athahatha village was established in 1799 AD by Niranjan Rai originally from village Sherpur. Nirajan Rai was one of five sons of chivalrous landlord Sarnam Rai, who due to unknown reasons migrated from Village Sherpur to this new place which was under control of Afaghan Zamidars few decades ago since then. Prior to Afaghans, Cheros- kharwars ruled this area till advent of Afaghans and Mughals. Jungle Bharti Baba Kot,Javarhi kot and a mound opposite Uttarvauli village are testimonials to the rich heritage of Chero –Kharwar dynesty, a dominat tribes in Kaimur region who ruled most of Ghazipur District, half of Varanasi district, whole of Sasaram, Palamau and considerable parts of modern Jharkhand state. They fought with Afaghans and Mughals and successfully blockaded Mughal routes leading to Bengal. After Afaghans hordes of Bhumihar Brahmins descended on this soil. They settled at Sakradeeh first then dispersed in nearby places like Sherpur, Reotipur etc. After having consolidated their position, they started skirmishes with Afaghan Tallukedars and grabbed a large area on the southern bank of Ganga. Other people attributed to this event done by Pratihaar Kshatriyas .

After arrival of Brahmin zamidars from Sherpur across river Gangage, other brothers of Niranjan Rai, namely Karta Rai, Ninuth Rai, Hoti Rai and Moti Rai also migrated over here. Soon after this event other descendants of Mansigh Rai and Heersingh Rai also joined the band. South bank of river Ganga was extremely fertile which attracted lot many Yadavas,Kanhaars Binds, Mallah, Gonds and other tribes enriching farming in a very planned manner. For this, wild vegetation were cleared and orchards were planted. Perfect harmony was established among various tribes which continued till date.
Till 80s and 90s, this village was endowed by flood which used to bring rich alluvial silt cover on its already fertile soil every year which resulted in bumper Rabi crop especially Bengal Gram and Masoor(Lentil) besides Barley, Wheat and Flax seeds. Jowar, Bajra, Sawa Millet, Kangun Millet were predominantly sown along with Moong and Urad under Kharif crop. It is interesting to note that around 8-9 quintal average crop per Bigha was very common without use of fertiliser and artificial irrigation practices. However, now a days the temperament of agriculture has considerably changed. Farmers are inclined upon sowing cash crops rather than traditional crops. Green Peas, Tomato, Potato and Mexican Wheat have dispelled all other crops far behind. Though, income of the farmers has increased manifold nevertheless, this has caused severe dent upon traditional agriculture and agrarian psyche as well.
