Amarantine (album)

Amarantine is the sixth studio album by Irish singer, songwriter and musician Enya, released on 21 November 2005 by Warner Music internationally and on 22 November 2005 by Reprise Records in the United States. Following her promotional tour in support of her previous album A Day Without Rain (2000), and work for the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), Enya began writing and recording for a new album. Amarantine was recorded in Ireland with her long time recording partners, arranger and producer Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan. It marks Enya's song recorded in Japanese.

Amarantine received mixed to positive reviews from critics, but it was a commercial success, peaking at number eight in the United Kingdom and number six on Billboard 200 in the United States, where one million copies of the album were shipped within its first month of release. Enya released two singles from the album, " Amarantine" and " It's in the Rain". In the United States, "Someone Said Goodbye" was released as a promotional single. In 2007, the album won Enya her fourth Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. According to Nielsen SoundScan, it is the third top selling new age album of the 2000s in the United States.

Amarantine (song)

"Amarantine" is a single by Irish musician Enya, taken from the album of the same name. The word is taken from ancient Greek and means everlasting or immortal (the same as the amaranth flower). The single was released in certain regions on 14 November 2005. Other regions received the single on or after 6 December 2005.

Several versions of "Amarantine" were released, some containing all three tracks, and some omitting the "Spaghetti Western" track. In some areas, Reprise released both a "Part I" single containing "Amarantine" and "The Comb of the Winds" and a "Part II" single that contained all three tracks.

The "Spaghetti Western Theme" is an atypical Enya recording arranged in the style of Ennio Morricone's work on films such as A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. A previously unreleased recording from The Celts soundtrack from 1986, Enya released it in memory of BBC producer Tony McAuley.

Usage examples of "amarantine".

And here at the Cytaean mainland and from the Amarantine mountains far away and the Circaean plain, eddying Phasis rolls his broad stream to the sea.

The angelick blast Filled all the regions: from their blisful bowers Of amarantine shade, fountain or spring, By the waters of life, where'er they sat In fellowships of joy, the sons of light Hasted, resorting to the summons high.
