What is "alabi"

Alabi (1783–1820) was a leader of the Saramaccans, a Maroon people in Suriname. He was of Yoruba West African descent.

Alabi is the name of a family Christian Arab originating in Bethlehem, where West Bank ( Palestine). According to family tradition comes from or originating in Halab, which is Arabic for Aleppo in Syria.

Alabi is also a Yoruba name of West Africa. The Yorubas are found in Nigeria and southwest of the Republic of Benin (formerly Dahomey). The name is one of the classification Oriki names called for a son. In the Yoruba culture, Oriki is given to a child at birth name, and often used by parents and family members to show affection, affection or recognition or a script or a job well done.
