Academician

The title Academician denotes a Full Member of an art, literary, or scientific academy. In many countries, it is an honorary title. However, in some other systems, like the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, it gave very real privileges and administrative responsibilities for funding allocation and research priorities.

Although defined in modern English dictionaries, the term academician is rarely used in the English speaking world and exemplifies poor handling of the language and/or a non-native speaker. It is preferred to use the more common term 'academic' to denote someone as a scholar.
